"The GameTheory team comes to the table with an end user-focused approach and this value is incorporated into every step of the design and development process from the very beginning. It's refreshing!"

Part 1: Research Goals

Funded by a grant from Tufts University our goal was to create a pilot in alternative telehealth solutions. The GT team began ideating with WIC's subject matter experts on the approach we could take to provide a unique training solution to reach people across rural communities and measure research-ready impact.

Part 2: Envisioning a Game-Inspired App

Working with WIC, the GT team designed a mobile app that delivers bite-sized trainings inspired by daily "playlist" games: once a day we ask participants to complete a set of quick mini games to build knowledge and confidence.

Part 3: An Agile Build Out

GameTheory assembled and led a development team team began building the app in an agile model: create the simplest and most core features first and test them early and often. Our team also led collaborations with the state of Vermont's technology teams to ensure the app would be able to send critical data for the research project out to WIC offices safely and efficiently with HIPPA compliance.

Part 4: Testing & Feedback

Part of ensuring we're building the best solution we can is testing early and often. Our team utilized input from WIC's advisory council thorughout our process and conducted two focused testing rounds: focus group feedback with target participants to offer feedback on our design concepts, and a beta test of the application across the state to identify final improvements needed to reach our goals.

Part 5: Measuring Impact

The resulting app was rolled out in a pilot, and tested for efficacy. The pilot study found that respondents who played Daily Drop at least once, 73% breastfed their baby at 3 months which was significantly higher compared with respondents who did not play Daily Drop at least once. To read in depth about the results, see the research report from Tufts here.

The Problem: Breast feeding is a huge challenge.

Vermont is a rural state, where new parents may be hours from the nearest WIC office where they can get support and training that helps them meet this challenge successfully. Not to mention - there is a significant technology gap where vast areas across the state have limited access to reliable internet.

What if we made a future where new parents have the confidence, support, and knowledge they need to feed their babies.
